SAVING PLACES Follows the Hands-on Restoration of Canada’s Heritage

Premieres on History Television June 12 at 7 pm ET/PT

TORONTO, May 26th, 2010 – Saving Places is a new Canadian original series that strives to
save Canadian building at time. This three-part series documents three unique
restoration projects, the time-honoured skills needed to restore Canada’s most desperately
endangered buildings and the people fighting to save them. Saving Places airs Saturdays at 7
pm ET/PT beginning June 12, exclusively on History Television. Saving Places unites three
expert hosts, architect Angus Skene, restoration expert Christopher Borgal and apprentice Daniel
Beeston, who are all challenged to help the communities and buildings in need of restoration.

Saving Places reveals how Heritage buildings are our historical works of art. Many remain
actively used places in which people live and work. Others are abandoned and the passage of
time naturally takes a toll. A leaking roof, a leaning staircase, unhinged doors and cracked
foundations. What do we do with a heritage building threatened by the ravages of age and
neglect? We can tear it down; our landfill sites are filled with demolition debris. Or we can save it.

Saving Places isn’t just about the sentimental feelings for old-fashioned architecture. It’s about
the conflict, egos, headaches and high stakes of saving a piece of irreplaceable history from the
wrecking ball, while trying to mix the right kind of plaster, match the right tone of milk paint or
carve the right curve in a staircase banister.

"In Saving Places, we meet three National Heritage buildings, all in danger of being lost forever
without a serious restoration, and the local communities who don't want to lose them. Then we
add one veteran heritage consultant, one handsome young restoration apprentice, and one
curious local history buff, and we set out on three very different journeys, from a reserve in the
interior of B.C. to Fogo Island, Newfoundland, to help save our Canadian heritage." Gail Gallant,
