Canada has world famous celebrities and a vibrant visual arts community made up of world class artists. With STAR PORTRAITS we are going to celebrate them!
Based on the hit BBC series that regularly engaged over five million prime-time UK viewers every week, STAR PORTRAITS is an innovative program that combines the art of portraiture with celebrity biography. The stories are intimate and personal as viewers will get to know the artists as well as learn more about the celebrities. Here in Canada, Toronto based production company PTV will give STAR PORTRAITS a stylish and fresh look and feel.
This unique series of 13 half hours heads into uncharted waters. It introduces Canadians to working artists in Canada as it pairs them with a well know Canadian subject for their work. STAR PORTRAITS will be broadcast, appropriately, on Bravo!, Canada’s only New Style Arts Channel.
We are happy to announce that this project is being produced here in Canada with the cooperation of the Portrait Gallery of Canada. The Portrait Gallery of Canada's mission is to honour, commemorate and celebrate those who have shaped this country. We look forward to STAR PORTRAITS leading the redefining of "portrait" for a new century.
In each program three painters are brought together to paint one celebrity portrait. Each artist will be visited, on camera, in his or her studio as part of the creation of a profile piece to be used in the episode. Each episode will feature a reveal of the paintings to the celebrity ‘sitter’ (without identifying who painted what) and that sitter will choose the portrait that they most wish to add to their own personal collection. Additionally the Portrait Gallery of Canada will add six of the portraits to their permanent collection.
The series will be shot in Toronto and Montreal.
